In an era of rapid social, cultural and economic change, we need people who can embrace curiosity, bring their questions and leave their mark. We need artists.
The arts help us make sense of the world, understand different perspectives, challenge our assumptions and connect us to one another. As a result, the arts are everywhere. Your favourite film, festival, video game, television show, concert, exhibition, book or comic doesn't exist without an artist.
In the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts, we believe artists deserve an education that takes their creativity seriously. This is where students become artists, and artists become creators.
A Fine Arts education is more than learning how to make art. It's learning how to identify and develop solutions to complex problems, express impactful experiences and ideas, collaborate with diverse teams, take risks and critically engage with new technologies.
These are skills that matter everywhere, not just in arts fields. And at ULethbridge, students develop those skills by doing the work.
Fine Arts students create. They perform. They exhibit. They experiment. They research. They collaborate. They question. They fail, try again and discover what they're capable of. This is what sets the Fine Arts apart and what makes graduates distinctive creators in their fields.

A Faculty built for creative thinkers
The Faculty of Fine Arts brings together artists, researchers, performers, designers, filmmakers, musicians, actors, creators and creative thinkers across art, art history, cinema and media, digital audio arts, drama, Indigenous art, museum, music, new media and multidisciplinary studies.
With more than 30 unique degree programs, there are many ways to find your place here — and plenty of room to create your own path. Our students learn from professors and instructors who are active in their fields and bring professional experience, research and creative practice into the classroom.
Small class sizes mean students work closely with their professors, receive meaningful mentorship and become part of a creative community where their ideas matter. The best part? Their learning goes past the classroom door.

Don't just study creativity — use it
Fine Arts students spend their degrees doing creative work.
They curate exhibitions, perform on stage, produce films, create new media, compose music, design experiences, critique culture, attend conferences, participate in festivals, develop research projects, collaborate across disciplines and work with professional artists and organizations.
Students have opportunities to show their work, share their ideas and contribute to the cultural life of the University and the community, and it's all part of their education.
Through scholarships, awards, residencies, research opportunities, exhibitions, performances and project-based funding, we invest in students and their creative ambitions. Through events like Vibe Fest, our premiere celebration of student artistic excellence, we showcase student creativity and talent and highlight the Fine Arts educational experience.
Vibe Fest brings together students with the broader community to experience the ideas and creative work coming out of the Fine Arts. It's a celebration of what happens when emerging artists are given the space and support to make something of their own.
From artworks covering every wall of the University Centre for the Arts, to theatre performances taken out in the open, to concerts held in unexpected places, Vibe Fest is an explosion of contemporary arts for the southern Alberta community.

Empowering students to create unique creative futures
Fine Arts graduates leave ULethbridge with creative expertise and a collection of transferable skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, project management, adaptability and the ability to turn ideas into action.
They become artists and performers, producers and designers, teachers and researchers, entrepreneurs and cultural leaders, filmmakers, curators, writers, arts administrators, game creators and community builders. Some build their careers in the arts, while others take their creative thinking to unexpected places.
The Faculty of Fine Arts is a place for people who are curious about the world, a place to explore ideas, take creative risks and make work that says something. A place where education isn't only about preparing for a career.
It's about becoming the kind of person who can contribute to culture, strengthen community and shape the world around them.
