Dylan is an amazing scholar. He maintained a straight 4.0 GPA during his time at the U of L in chemistry, which is a particularly difficult feat. He also participated in different research programs, including completing an Honours thesis and a few Independent Studies courses in my lab. Astonishingly, he already has two publications (yes two!) as he graduates from the U of L with his BSc, as well as numerous conference presentations. Dylan is a shining example of a young scholar that the University of Lethbridge should be happy to graduate.
What is your most memorable uLethbridge experience?
Probably defending my Honours Thesis. It was an intense experience but also immensely satisfying when I got through it.
Is there someone specific who had an important influence on your uLethbridge?
Dr. Stacey Wetmore has had a big impact on my University of Lethbridge experience. I had the opportunity to take several classes and independent studies with her, which lead to me working as a research assistant in her lab over two summers. She's been a valuable mentor for me throughout my time at the University of Lethbridge.
What is the most important lesson you learned?
How important it is to stay organized. When the term is in full swing its easy to forget about due dates or a test, which can make for a nasty shock when you get an email saying its due the next day. Even just a simple list of important dates can give you some peace of mind that you're not missing anything.
What are your hopes/plans for the future?
I hope to eventually use what I've learned to help design new drugs and treatments for illnesses.
What advice would you give to students who are about to begin their post-secondary journeys?
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Your classmates will thank you for it and its much easier than trying to puzzle through things on your own.
