Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I grew up on the shores of Lake Ontario in Scarborough and moved to Vancouver after university. After sampling several different occupations, I began my adventures in the career development field at several employment service hubs in the Lower Mainland and the Okanagan. After 10 years in the field, I worked in project management for a small but mighty charity that focused on developing children’s and family’s social and emotional life skills. After a while I felt that I missed the career development field too much, and found my way to ULethbridge.

How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?

I’ve been at ULethbridge since August 2024, and I work as a Career Coach at the Career Bridge Centre for Work-Integrated Learning and Career Development. In my role, I help students with career exploration, resume and cover letter writing, job search, networking, interview preparation, grad school applications and more!

What’s the best part of your job?

Exploring what we want to do, who we want to be, and charting our own career path isn’t always easy, but helping students navigate that process is my favourite part of the job. It’s also fun to map all the small and big wins in the process. Working together on a resume that helps someone identify their skills and land an interview — amazing! Working together on interviewing in a way that helps them articulate their strengths and get a job — fantastic! There is so much to explore with each path a person chooses to take, and curiosity is one of the best compasses and catalysts we can use to help us walk those paths. Although every career journey has twists and turns we can’t always predict, being able to support students, witness their growth, and see them identify and live their potential is a gift.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I’m an advanced beginner when it comes to ukulele and piano, and have a dream to learn the drums, much to the chagrin of my husband. Hiking in the mountains, playing sports, and running in the coulees are things I like to think about doing when I’m at home on the sofa reading my latest non-fiction book.
