Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up on the West Coast, in Surrey, British Columbia, and I relocated with my family to Calgary when I was 16 years old. Adapting to the chilly winters was quite the adventure, to say the least! After graduating high school in Calgary, I decided to take a year off and travelled to Australia with my two childhood best friends. We explored Australia for a year and the experience was incredible! Upon returning to Calgary, I attended SAIT and obtained my Legal Assistant Diploma. Working in law firms was rewarding, enlightening, fast-paced and provided me with invaluable skills. I was extremely lucky to work for some great lawyers. In 2005 my partner and I made the move to Lethbridge as he was accepted to ULethbridge to complete his master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. At that time, I also took the opportunity to enrol at the University and earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in sociology in 2009. In 2011, my family expanded with the arrival of my first daughter and in 2014, we welcomed our second daughter. In 2019, I embraced a new chapter in my career journey by joining the General Counsel office at the University. Initially hired as a Legal Assistant, I seized the opportunity to broaden my horizons. In 2023, I was thrilled to take on additional responsibilities as the Privacy Officer and FOIP Coordinator. This expanded role allowed me to deepen my understanding of how legislation such as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act shapes the operations of the University, particularly in managing personal information and privacy concerns.
How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?
I started in 2019 in the Legal Assistant role and in 2023, expanded my role to include the Privacy Officer and FOIP coordinator roles. This means I support the General Counsel in all legal matters along with ensuring we are managing our FOIP processes appropriately, such as responding to FOIP requests and working with departments on privacy breaches and privacy scans.
What's the best part of your job?
I really appreciate our small, but mighty, team in the General Counsel office! I also enjoy having the opportunity to work with so many different departments and people across campus!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time with my husband and two daughters, now 13 and 10, and our favourite doodle, Marty McFly. I love to travel and support my girls in their many extracurricular activities!
