Aaron Tamayose (BA ’09, MC ’17)
From his work as a registered psychologist to his commitment to bringing his expertise into the larger community, Aaron Tamayose’s precise care and innovative approaches position him as a positive force for change in the lives of many.
Upon completing his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Lethbridge, his experience and community involvement earned him a position working with the Accommodated Learning Centre on campus. During his nine years there, Aaron worked tirelessly to grow the scope of services available to students who required additional learning supports. From expanding the accessibility of services available to students to minimizing the associated stigma, Aaron’s efforts broadened the centre’s impact and ensured that its effects would be felt for years to come.
While completing his Master of Counselling at uLethbridge, Aaron entered a practicum at Alberta Health Services, Forensic Assessment and Outpatient Services (FAOS). Here, he gained firsthand experience providing assessments and treatments to clients, leveraging his humbled and focused demeaner to excel in this role. The impressive calibre of his work did not go unnoticed, and Aaron was soon offered a position with their team.
Today, Aaron’s work as a registered psychologist (forensic and clinical) and Canadian Certified Counsellor allows him to build upon his education and experience at the University to generate a lasting impact. In his role, Aaron evaluates and treats people who have offended in a sexual manner and assists clients with the transition from prison to a community setting. Through his co-development of the Rebound program, a program designed for offenders who have been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, Aaron provided applied therapies to prevent re-offense for those who were not otherwise suited for traditional forms of therapy. Additionally, he has recently launched his own practice, Rising Sun Psychological Services, allowing him to further bring his expertise into the Calgary community. On top of these varied commitments, Aaron has taken on a role as a sessional instructor at Reeves College, supporting the future endeavors of students in the field.
It is clear that Aaron is generating a substantial impact on Calgary’s social services landscape. His quality of care combined with his dedication to the profession allows him to build a healthier and safer society for all. As a proud alumnus and vocal advocate for the value of a post-secondary education, Aaron is an outstanding example of the inspiring heights that uLethbridge graduates can achieve.
