Morgan Porter knew early on that she wanted to be a nurse. She is genuinely fascinated with how the body works and loves connecting with people. Her instructors at ULethbridge pushed her in ways she never expected, and shaped her as a student and as a future nurse.

It might sound cheesy, but I really do want to make a difference in people’s lives. Nursing has shown me that my passion isn’t just for medicine, it’s for the people. My hope is to be a little bit of light in what might be a dark or difficult time for someone.

Meet Morgan | Compassionate. Empathetic. Outgoing.
Program: Bachelor of Nursing

Why did you choose ULethbridge?

As a nursing student, I was drawn to the opportunity to gain practical clinical experience in the healthcare setting early in my program. The smaller class sizes have allowed for meaningful connections with instructors and peers, creating a supportive learning environment that has helped me grow in so many ways.

Did you know what you wanted to study before you came to ULethbridge?

Yes, I did! I realized I wanted to become a nurse during an online biology class in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep us engaged, my instructor shared some pictures of crazy injuries that people had went through. I found myself genuinely fascinated by how the body works. I’ve also always loved connecting with people, my mom jokes that I could talk for Canada, so nursing felt like the perfect fit. From then on, I knew nursing was the career I wanted to pursue.

How have your professors impacted your education?

My professors have had a huge impact on my education and personal growth. One instructor, that has had the biggest positive impact on me was Cyrena Quinn. She once said to me, “Now that you know what you want to be, find out who you want to be when you grow up” and that really stuck with me. She is one of the many instructors I’ve had in nursing so far that have played a major role in shaping who I am, not just as a student, but as a future nurse. The knowledge, encouragement, and connection I have received from so many of my instructors has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected, and I’ve learned so much from each of them.

What is your most memorable ULethbridge experience?

My most memorable experience at the University of Lethbridge isn’t just one moment, it’s the friendships and connections I’ve made along the way. From study sessions to clinical placements and everything in between, it's the people I’ve met and the shared experiences we've had that stand out the most.

In your free time, what do you like to do?

In my free time, I love hanging out with friends, watching movies, exploring new hiking trails, discovering camping spots, and spending time with my family. I’m not someone who can sit still for long so staying active and keeping busy is important to me. Whether I’m outdoors or just spending quality time with the people I care about.

What are your hopes and plans for the future?

It might sound cheesy, but I really do want to make a difference in people’s lives. Nursing has shown me that my passion isn’t just for medicine, it’s for the people. I know that healthcare can be overwhelming and even scary at times, so I tend to use humor to lighten the mood and bring some comfort. My hope is to be a little bit of light in what might be a dark or difficult time for someone. My goal is to be that nurse that not just offers care, but compassion, connection, and maybe even a laugh when it’s needed most.

What advice would you like to give those about beginning their journey at ULethbridge?

My advice to anyone starting their journey at the University of Lethbridge would be to embrace the experience and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. It’s important to build connections! I think the people around you really make the most out of your experience.
