In her first year at the University of Lethbridge, Sofia Hoff (BA/BEd '24) accomplished a significant personal milestone: joining her two older sisters, Eden and Siena, on the Women's Rugby team. Her excellence in sports and academics only grew, leading to her well-deserved recognition with the prestigious Pronghorn Athletics President’s Award in 2023.

Take risks, be brave, and be gentle with yourself as you navigate school and life.

What is the most important lesson you learned during your time at ULethbridge?

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. University is an inevitably foreign experience that includes many firsts, mistakes and challenges. Embrace being uncomfortable, as it is a tremendous sign of growth and evolution, which is crucial for this time in your life!

Is there someone specific who had an important influence on your ULethbridge experience?

The entire staff and members of Pronghorn Athletics tremendously aided in my success as not just an athlete, but also as a student and person. My coaches, trainers, teammates, and fellow Pronghorn athletes directly influenced my growth over six years and molded me into who I am today.

I also could not have done it without my family. They unconditionally supported me through out the good and bad times. I am so incredibly lucky and grateful for them.

Did you receive scholarships and awards?

I am extremely grateful for receiving several scholarships throughout my time at the ULethbridge. The financial support made a substantial difference in my university experience. I was able to focus on my academics and rugby with less stress placed on finances. I am truly grateful for the support of all donors who help university students, and I look forward to supporting and giving back as an alumni!

What have you gained from the liberal education experience at ULethbridge?

My liberal education experience provided me with the opportunity and autonomy to enrol in diverse courses that extended beyond my degree. These experiences led to an exposure and appreciation for different perspectives and knowledge.

What advice would you like to give those who are about to begin their journey at ULethbridge?

Make new friends, embrace discomfort, and take care of your mental and physical health.
