Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am an alumnus of the University of Lethbridge completing a BA in psychology and a BMgt in human resources and labour relations. I have worked in post-secondary for almost five years, my previous role was working in career development where I developed a passion for further education and the benefits of the holistic student journey. I am extremely passionate about work-integrated learning and experiential learning and have continued my own education to further understand the impact of these experiences on adult learning, working towards an MEd in adult learning and global change from the University of British Columbia.
How long have you been at the U of L and what do you do here?
I only started at the university at the beginning of July and my role is the coordinator of professional development in the Office of Graduate Studies. I hope to increase awareness and engagement in professional development activities of our graduate students, to help them shape their time at the University and take advantage of learning both within their academic life, and their personal growth and development.
What are you most looking forward to for the fall semester?
I am most looking forward to seeing people. I have greatly missed working on campus and the energy and buzz from the excitement of the education journey and the experiences campus brings.
What’s the best part of your job? What is the most meaningful part of your job?
Creating and supporting connections, whether it be connecting individuals with services and supports or helping students connect their goals to their journey. The best and my favourite part is when a student has that 'aha' moment that helps them push through whatever they are dealing with and find the ability to connect to a goal, an activity or an objective.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? Or, alternatively, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love good food and wine. I began working at Everything Wine and More (now closed ☹) as a university student and fell in love with wine. As part of the job, I was able to complete wine and spirit education trust training and fell in love with wine, the process and how it all comes together. My favourite activity is having a good glass of sparking wine and sitting by a fire. I also enjoy spending time with my husband Chris and our two Siamese cats, Bill and Ted.
