The HRC West Case Competition is one of Western Canada’s premier experiential learning opportunities for future human resources professionals. Hosted annually by CPHR Alberta in partnership with CPHR BC & Yukon, the event brings together post-secondary student teams from across Alberta and British Columbia to tackle a comprehensive, real-world HR case and present solutions to an experienced panel of HR practitioners. Over the course of the weekend-long event, competitors gain hands-on experience, build HR skills and connect with industry leaders, all while bringing classroom theory to life.

This year, the University of Lethbridge was proudly represented by Muhsina Poovathungal Abdul Assiz, Nichole Coupland, Ashima Dhiman and Enny Oshile, coached by Shawna Boyko. Although the team did not place in the final rankings, their participation itself was a testament to their dedication, professionalism and readiness to take on complex HR challenges.

Reflecting on the experience, Muhsina Poovathungal Abdul Assiz shared that it was “truly a great experience for me. I had the pleasure of working with an amazing team and a very supportive coach. This opportunity allowed me to apply my classroom learning to a real-life HR case and present in front of an experienced judging panel. Although we did not place, I am grateful to have represented the University of Lethbridge in such a valuable and time-intensive competition. We gave our best effort and the experience itself was incredibly rewarding.”

Their commitment to representing the University, applying HR concepts under pressure, and engaging with peers and practitioners alike highlights the value of competitions like HRC West.
