Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born in Lethbridge, but spent the majority of my life in Creston Valley, located in the Kootenay region of British Columbia on an apple orchard. I am so fortunate to have grown up living in the country, enjoying fresh produce and exploring the valley. My husband and I recently moved outside of Lethbridge and love the peace and quiet. We have nature right outside our front door and endless amounts of yard work. It’s a love-hate relationship!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for aquatic sports like swimming, boating, SCUBA diving and snorkeling. I was involved in swim club as a competitor and later as a coach, which evolved into life-guarding and teaching swimming lessons. I’ve worked at various aquatic facilities throughout Alberta and have been life-guarding for 22 years and counting.

How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?
I have been at the University since April 2010. I started as a casual staff member, life-guarding and teaching swimming lessons, which was so rewarding! Throughout the years, I gained experience and advanced into the Aquatics Coordinator position. A large part of my job is program planning, like our popular private swimming lessons! They attract the majority of our external customers and are extremely important to our portfolio. I am proud to be a part of a team of hard-working lifeguards and swimming instructors who share a similar passion for aquatics.

What's the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the team I work with. Horns Recreation is always evolving and we support each other throughout the changes; we really do have a lot of fun!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I really enjoy gardening! For me, it’s a form of escapism and a sense of pride. This year I started an indoor greenhouse so I can get a jump start on the season. So far, peppers, tomatoes, asparagus and herbs are starting to sprout.

I also love travelling and camping. We hope to visit Costa Rica next year and we will be camping throughout the summer. One of my favorite areas to camp is Porcupine Hills. For me, being outdoors and getting away from the daily routine of work and home is a great way to relax and recharge.
