What excites you about science?

What excites me about science is its purpose of expanding the world's collective knowledge.

What sparked your interest in science and your related field?

My family. My family has direct experience with neurodegenerative disease. Also, my mother’s interest in bettering herself and her elementary students through cognitive development strategies tied to neuropsychology was inspiring.

Tell us about the first time you felt really excited about what you were learning?

The first neuroscience course I took at uLethbridge (NEUR 1000). Even though it was an elementary intro class, I knew this major was for me and have loved every neuroscience class I've taken since!

What surprised you about participating in scientific research at uLethbridge?

Scientific research at uLethbridge is genuinely collaborative. Within a single lab and across multiple labs, you can help on various projects by sharing equipment, ideas and expertise in different protocols.

Participating in the research process helped me see how much I enjoy lab work and paved the path for my future career.

What words of inspiration would you like to share with the next generation of women and girls in science?

Take chances on the things you want to try. You may find that you love or hate it, but no time is wasted. By taking chances, you won't have to look back and think about what could have been. Instead, you can look forward with the knowledge you gained by saying ‘yes’ or asking for that opportunity.
