Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Lethbridge, and like many kids with big dreams, I once imagined becoming a marine biologist — until I realized I lived in a landlocked province and was absolutely terrified of open water! After high school, I started working as a bookkeeper at a local trucking company and chipped away at my Business Administration diploma in accounting part-time through Lethbridge College.

In 2006, I decided to shake things up and moved to Calgary, where I took on a role in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary. That’s really where my interest in post-secondary work took root. But as much as I enjoyed the experience, I missed home — especially being close to friends and family — so I made my way back to Lethbridge in 2007 and joined the University of Lethbridge.

Aside from a one-year detour in Winnipeg for my husband’s job, I’ve been here ever since. Over the years, my work in the Career Bridge office sparked a new curiosity in human resources, so I decided to go back to school and pursue my Bachelor of Management degree while working. It’s been a winding but meaningful journey, and I’ve really grown alongside the work I do.

How long have you been at ULethbridge, and what do you do here?

I’ve been part of the ULethbridge community for 18 years now, always rooted in the Careers department. My journey began back in 2007 when I stepped in to cover a maternity leave in Career Services as the Program Assistant. I had the chance to organize the career fair and help employers connect with students for recruitment — a fast-paced, people-focused role that I loved. When that contract wrapped up, I was lucky enough to move into a permanent position with the Faculty of Management Co-op Program, where I spent the next 13 years supporting students and employers. In 2019, I took a detour to cover a maternity leave as a Co-op Coordinator, which gave me a new perspective on the student experience. Then in 2021, I moved into my current role as the MyExperience Transcript Advisor with Career Bridge. Now, I get to help students make the most of their time at ULethbridge by supporting them in accessing, participating in, and reflecting on experiential learning through the MyExperience platform and transcript. I also work closely with staff, faculty and community partners to bring both curricular and co-curricular opportunities to life within the platform.

What's the best part of your job?

The best part of my job, hands down, is the students. Being able to play even a small part in their journey — helping them work toward their dreams and figure out what’s next — is incredibly rewarding. It’s a privilege to watch their confidence grow and to celebrate their wins along the way.

But I also have to say, I wouldn’t have made it 18 years without the amazing colleagues I get to work with. Some of them have become such close friends that I truly can’t imagine what I’d do without them. They’re the kind of people who make workdays fly by and bring laughter to even the busiest times. Having that support and camaraderie makes all the difference.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I love spending time on the golf course — there’s something about the mix of challenge, fresh air and occasional triumph that keeps me coming back. I’m also always up for an adventure, whether it’s a spontaneous road trip or exploring new places with my husband, Tom and our fur baby, Molly (who truly believes she’s the star of every journey). I enjoy music, so you’ll often find me at concerts, or musicals, or broadways, or flipping through records in small local shops (when I can find one) — bonus points if I find a hidden gem. I also value quiet time with a good book, and I never miss an opportunity to gather with friends and family. Whether it’s a backyard hangout or a weekend getaway, connection and laughter are at the heart of everything I enjoy.
