Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up in Coaldale (don’t judge) and graduated high school in 1991. I started at the University of Lethbridge in 1992. I met my future wife at a cabaret at the Zoo in 1994 and we were married in 1996. We welcomed our first child in 1998 while I was still a student at ULethbridge. I completed my second degree in late 1999 and our second child was born in 2000 after I was employed by the University. My wife, both of my kids, and my mother are all alumni of ULethbridge as well.
How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?
While a student, I used to come to the university in the evening to study for my exams. Heading home one night in December 1999, I passed a job board that used to be in an entrance to UHall and noticed a term position beginning in January 2000, in the Admissions office. I figured that this job opportunity was timed well, as it started as soon as I was done school. I interviewed for that job and got hired on as an Admissions Assistant in the Admissions office.
And so began a long career at ULethbridge. I have done six jobs in my time here. I had four positions over a 10-year period in Admissions, doing admissions-ey things. In 2021, I moved to graduate programs in the Faculty of Education where I spent another 10 years as a Program Specialist. Finally, I moved to Fine Arts in 2021 and became the Academic Advisor. In my role as academic advisor, I work within a team to assist students on planning and completing their Fine Arts programs.
What's the best part of your job?
I enjoy working directly with students and helping them navigate their programs. I see so much promise in students and want them to have the best chance possible to succeed and follow their passions.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy woodworking, concert-going, and video games. My wife and I recently achieved ‘empty nester’ status and we’ve started travelling and getting out more.
