Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Lethbridge. After high school, I started attending the University of Lethbridge and completed my education degree in 2003. I began teaching that same year in Medicine Hat, and a few years later returned to Lethbridge to continue my teaching career. Teaching presented me with so many great opportunities as I was fortunate enough to be a classroom teacher, Learning Support Teacher, Vice-Principal, and Principal over the span of 20 years. For the past three years, I was the Director of Inclusive Education for Lethbridge School Division, where one of my main responsibilities included working with schools and staff to ensure students had access to the supports they needed for learning. This role allowed me to work closely with students, families and community agencies/organizations. I strongly believe that student voice is critical in our ability to support students effectively, and that universal design is one of our greatest strategies to leverage given the diversity and uniqueness of our students and learning spaces today.
How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?
I have just begun my journey in this role as Manager of the ALC - I am currently one week in!
What's the best part of your job?
Supporting students in accessing learning in ways that they need is the most rewarding part of what I do. I also hope to be a support for faculty members who may need assistance in implementing student accommodations in their classes. And finally, being part of a team that can collaborate and work together to find solutions always makes what we do more exciting and enjoyable.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy time with my family. My husband Myles and I are parents to two amazing kids, Ava and Gavin. We have two dogs that we enjoy taking out for walks or to the ball diamond to watch baseball. I also really enjoy reading and hanging out with my extended family, including my nieces and nephews. And ... I love anything '80s pop culture. The best.
