Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am from Barbados, a beautiful little island in the Caribbean. After finishing high school, I chose accounting as my field and began working while pursuing my CPA designation. I completed my studies in Canada, where I met my husband. We then lived in Barbados for seven more years, where I was the CFO with Ernst & Young Caribbean before moving to London, Ont. 20 years ago with our young son.
In London, I began working at Western University, where I held several roles both centrally and in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Later, I then moved to Huron University, a smaller affiliate university of Western, as their VP, Finance & Administration. In the summer of 2024, I was approached about the position at ULethbridge. Intrigued, I started researching the University and the position. It would be a significant move for my family and me, but the more I learned and the more I spoke with people, the more exciting and compelling the prospect became. Throughout the interview process, my interest in the position only heightened. The University’s values and vision resonated deeply with me, and I was thrilled to be selected for the role. It is an honour to join such a vibrant community, and I am excited to contribute to its bright future!
How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?
I started October 1, 2024, after arriving in Lethbridge three short days prior on September 27, 2024. I lead a broad portfolio of hard-working and dedicated people in the Departments of Ancillary Services, Athletics & Recreation, Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology and the Office of the General Counsel. These departments work closely with our academic and other student services units to provide many critical and important services to the entire university community. Our work is exciting and ongoing, I enjoy the variety and the myriad connections to all aspects of the University and looking for solutions to the challenges that arise in our complex environment.
What's the best part of your job?
The people! Without a doubt, the best part of my job is working with my incredible team, who have been so welcoming, patient and supportive. I feel very fortunate to work and collaborate with such talented and hard-working teams in Finance, ITS, HR, Ancillary Services, Athletics and Recreation and the General Counsel Office. Their dedication to their colleagues, their department and the University is very evident and inspiring.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m an avid reader, dabble in knitting and crafty stuff and enjoy road trips and exploring.
