Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Lethbridge and went to the college right after high school for a year and realized that it was not a good fit. I heard about a job opening in the University’s Materials Management 16 years ago, so I applied and worked in that department for two years. In about 2011, a job opened in building maintenance which started my 14- year-long stretch in that department. Last year, I was fortunate enough to get the position in the sign shop, and I could not be happier.

How long have you been at ULethbridge and what do you do here?

I’ve been working at the University since 2009 and, as mentioned in the previous section, I have had a few different roles. I started in the mailroom with Materials Management where I would sort and deliver intercampus mail and ship packages out. While in building maintenance, I was in charge of all general maintenance of UHall which included anything from replacing carpet tiles to ceiling repairs. In the sign shop, I get to create or update most of the signage across the campus. I get to work with a lot of great people to create many kinds of signs, including street signs, parking signs, wayfinding, event signage and office names.

What's the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is that I get to lean into my creative side to design and create signage. I have always been an artsy person, so it’s nice to be able to use that in my work every day.  I love my job and the team I work with and am grateful to my manager supporting me in being independent in this role.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a very active person so when I’m not at work you can usually find me playing sports, the main ones being hockey, golf, squash, pickleball and softball. I also like making music which also lets me be creative in a different way than my job does. I am a sneaker guy and have a big collection of Jordans — they’re slowly expanding and soon won’t fit into just one closet. All of that aside, my favourite thing to do in my downtime is to rollerblade and hang with my Doberman, Rexxa. My wife and I go to Mexico every year and I always look forward to that because she’s an amazing volleyball player and we always win the tournaments we go in.
