Where are you from? What is your background?
I was born in Canmore AB and moved to Lethbridge when I was 9. So I have been here a long time and consider Lethbridge my hometown. More than that, I feel I have grown up at the U of L in many ways. The campus community as a whole is very important to me. There is an energy here, rooted in the excitement of learning and innovation, that I am so grateful to be a part of.

When did you join the uLethbridge team and what do you do here?
I completed my undergrad and MA in English Lit at the U of L, worked a short stint as a trade book buyer at the U of L bookstore, and then moved into a position with the Faculty of Arts and Science as a program coordinator and instructor with the Co-operative Education and Applied Studies programs. Currently, I am acting academic director for the newly adapted Career Bridge Centre for Work-Integrated Learning and Career Development.

What is the best part of your job?
I am honored to be working in a capacity that helps students connect their passion with their potential, often beyond what they thought themselves capable of, by exploring how their interests and academic training connect to real-world application. These are simple concepts, really, – work-integrated learning and career development, but when applied thoughtfully can have life-changing outcomes. Every student is different and every day I get to work with, and learn from, an array of partners including students, disciplinary experts, and professionals. It is exciting work, to be sure.

Why are you excited about Career month and the work your team does?
I am excited about the career development opportunities our department is offering students this month. There is a lot of good content for students to engage with.  I am also pumped about the fact that our team is phenomenal. We have come together as new department in only a few short months, and with some challenges, but they are amazing people and already hitting it out of the park!

What is one piece of advice you would give to students in relation to their career journey?
The best advice I can give is simple: come visit us at Career Bridge. Learn about our programs and services - then try our stuff. You will be amazed at the doors that will start to open.
