A rediscovered interest in math and the love of teaching others led Jaxon Harvey to the Faculty of Education, where he thrived as a pre-service teacher.

University isn't all sunshine and roses, but when you commit and attack each day with enthusiasm and determination – which looks different for everyone – you can conquer even your darkest days.

Why did you choose ULethbridge?

The University of Lethbridge was the perfect chance to receive a great education at a great price! I read a lot about the University having one of the best Education programs in Canada, especially in terms of practicum experience, and that was always in the back of my mind during my first (and only) semester as a psychology major.

Did you know what you wanted to study before you came to ULethbridge?

I was originally a psychology major, but quickly rekindled my love of math; especially teaching math to others!

What is your most memorable ULethbridge experience?

Definitely my professional semesters, they have been such enriching experiences where I have had the opportunity to interact with researchers, as well as both working and retired master teachers.

The wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge that I've been able to learn is vast and enriching, and the experiences that I've had with students in the classroom have been even more valuable!

How have your professors impacted your education?

The greatest professors that I have had an opportunity to learn from are the ones that made myself and others feel valued as learners. They helped me to feel excited for learning and understood that learning is a process, not an event.

Is there anyone who has had an important influence on your ULethbridge experience?

The friends I have been able to make in the the classes I've been in have been one of the greatest resources, both academically and emotionally! Get to know people around you, they can help you immensely!

In your free time, what do you like to do?

I love the NFL! For most of my time at the U of L I've hosted my very own NFL podcast, which has been a great release from all of the homework!

I'm also a very proud father of one, which keeps me and my wife busier than anything!

What are your hopes/plans for the future?

I plan on teaching high school level math, and eventually returning to post-secondary to embark on a masters (and maybe even a doctorate!) degree.

What advice would you give to those about to begin their journey at ULethbridge?

Trust your gut and jump in with both feet! These can be the most enriching years of your life, but only if you let them be!
