Dhillon School of Business Shining Graduate Jace Norlin
When Jace Norlin (BMgt '23) began shopping around for schools with the best finance program, he was thrilled to learn that one of the highest-ranking universities was right in his own backyard. Choosing the Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge allowed Jace to stay close to home while continuing to work through his studies. It was the perfect scenario for the finance major, who will be graduating this spring with great distinction.
Being a finance major, I have a huge interest in trading, so the knowledge I gained from competing was a huge part of my degree. I made lifelong friendships within my team, and our two teams placed 8th and 11th, putting us in the top five of all schools."
Meet Jace. Learner. Ambitious. Innovator.
Hometown: Fort Macleod, Alberta
Program: Bachelor of Management | Major: Finance
Did you know what you wanted to study before you came to ULethbridge?
I knew I was studying finance; however, I did ponder double majoring in accounting as well.
What is your most memorable ULethbridge experience so far?
Competing in the 2022 Rotman International Trading Competition. This is a financial trading competition in which 53 teams from around the world compete in simulated markets regarding financial derivatives, commodities, equities and more. I was recruited into the Ulethbridge Finance Club by fellow students to have a chance to compete for a spot on the team.
How have your professors impacted your education?
My professors pushed me to set a high standard for myself, as well as explore the financial world. Vishaal Baulkaran and Ebenezer Asem were critical in helping me expand my financial knowledge and helped me achieve success in my studies.
Is there anyone else who has had an important influence on your ULethbridge experience?
The 2022 and 2023 Finance Club allowed me to make some good friends and helped expand my knowledge. The students in this club should be recognized more, as they are continually placing high in their competitions, facing much larger schools.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Currently, I am studying for my chartered financial analyst (CFA) exam, so free time is not in abundance. When I do have some time, I like to play hockey and golf and work towards furthering my financial knowledge through trading.
What are your hopes and plans for the future?
I plan to pass my CFA exam and continue my career with the Davis Auto Group.
What advice would you like to give those about to begin their journey at ULethbridge?
Join a club of your interest to make friends and help speed along your education. Also, do not be afraid to ask questions. Professors love to assist willing students, and the worst they can say is no.
Congratulations, Jace!
