Q&A with Fall 2022 graduate Amber Pritchard

Amber Pritchard (BHSc '22) graduates this fall with a Bachelor of Health Sciences majoring in public health, with a minor in Aboriginal health. Deciding to go back to school as a mature student, Amber is working toward incorporating traditional Indigenous foods into long-term care and acute care in hospital settings.

Is there someone specific who had an important influence on your ULethbridge experience?

Dr. Cheryl Currie (Associate Professor of Public Health) is the reason I decided to go back to school as a mature student. Through her teachings, as well as the casual conversations that we shared, her insights and wisdom helped me discover what kind of mark I want to leave on the world.

What advice would you like to give those who are about to begin their journey at ULethbridge?

Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Growth is uncomfortable. You don't grow personally, academically, or professionally by staying inside your comfort zone. It's the challenge that changes you.

What are your plans for the future after graduation?

I am going to work towards incorporating traditional Indigenous foods into the provincially mandated menus for long-term care and acute care within hospitals, especially in rural sites like Cardston.
