Marcela Rada (BMus '17)

I hope to encourage my students to be innovators. I want to inspire them to use technology to help build communities and create content never seen before.

Music instructor Marcela Rada (BMus ‘17) is a sound engineer and content developer. Her research focuses on spatial audio and immersive experiences for XR platforms.

What excites you about your work?

I like keeping up with technological innovations. Through my work and research, I get to teach my students about new advancements in the field of sound engineering. I also find it very rewarding when I can inspire them to create innovative content.

What sparked your interest in your field?

I have always loved music and technology, and sound engineering combines both! I've had a passion for sound since I was a child.

Tell us about the first time you felt really excited about what you were learning?

The first time I walked into a recording studio, I knew that that's where I belonged. It was my first recording engineering class. I've always loved school, but I had never been more excited and eager to learn than that day.

What do you hope to accomplish through your work?

I hope to encourage my students to be innovators. I want to inspire them to use technology to help build communities and create content never seen before.

What words of inspiration would you like to share with the next generation of women and girls?

There are challenges and limitations in every field, but we can't let them distract us from our goals. It's important to stay focused, believe in our potential and project it. We are lacking female role models—strive to be one!
