Why did you choose ULethbridge?
I was drawn to the University of Lethbridge’s strong focus on research and innovation, with professors and staff deeply engaged in advancing their fields. Programs like Agility reflect ULethbridge's commitment to providing hands-on opportunities and fostering creative problem-solving, which aligns perfectly with my academic and career goals.
Did you know what you wanted to study before you came to ULethbridge?
I am passionate about technology, particularly in the fields of computer science, robotics, and AI. Since starting at ULethbridge, my academic plan has remained focused on these areas, allowing me to build expertise and work toward my goals.
Please tell us about your experiential or work-integrated learning at ULethbridge.
I completed two co-op semesters in the IT Department at the University of Lethbridge, which provided invaluable experiential learning. During this time, I enhanced my professional communication skills, gaining experience in effective collaboration within a workplace. I also learned how to apply the theoretical knowledge from my studies to solve real-world problems, bridging the gap between academics and practical application. Additionally, I gained a deeper understanding of how processes and projects function in a professional setting, with these reflections helping me grow personally and professionally.
What is your most memorable ULethbridge experience so far?
My most memorable experience at ULethbridge has been starting the University's robotics club. Seeing so many students passionately participate and collaborate has been incredibly rewarding. Hosting competitions, like the line-following robotics challenge last spring, was a highlight. Watching students’ enthusiasm as they worked together to improve their robots and make them faster with each lap brought me immense happiness and a sense of accomplishment.
How have your professors impacted your education?
My professors have played a pivotal role in shaping my education and academic journey. Dr. Matthew Tata (Neuroscience) has been an exceptional mentor, consistently nurturing my passion for robotics by providing valuable resources and motivating me to strive for excellence.
Dr. Igor Kovalchuk (Biological Sciences) demonstrated confidence in my work in AI, particularly in applying AI to plant health, inspiring me to think creatively and pursue innovative solutions.

Dr. Artur Luczak (Neuroscience) has broadened my perspective with his unique approach and open-mindedness, fostering a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.
Furthermore, Dr. Sidney Shapiro (Dhillon School of Business) has not only guided my research efforts but also mentored me in professional development and career planning.
Together, these professors have highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, teaching me that true innovation often emerges at the intersection of diverse fields. Their unwavering support and guidance have been instrumental in shaping both my educational path and future aspirations.
Is there anyone else who had an important influence on your ULethbridge experience?
Sean Gray, my supervisor during my co-op work terms, had a significant influence on my ULethbridge experience. He was incredibly supportive, especially at the beginning of the semester, teaching and correcting me in many areas, particularly in professional communication. Our shared interests made working together even more enjoyable, and we’ve developed a strong friendship that continues to this day. His guidance and encouragement have been instrumental in my professional and personal growth.
Are you participating in any extracurricular activities?
Yes, I enjoy playing badminton and cricket, along with photography, video editing, and video games. I also actively participate in academic conferences and love designing projects using CAD and 3D printing, which allow me to bring creative ideas to life.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I engage with emerging technologies, design parts using CAD, and build rockets, robots, and RC cars while honing my soldering and circuit design skills. I stay updated on the latest software advancements, attend local events in Lethbridge, network with professionals, and represent ULethbridge at technology conferences to stay informed and contribute to the field.
What are your hopes/plans for the future?
I aim to further my studies in the field of robotics with the goal of developing technologies that can one day replace humans in high-risk jobs, such as those in mines, high-altitude areas, or even the military, where individuals are constantly exposed to danger. My passion extends to creating robots that can assist in rescue operations during disasters, like fires, earthquakes, or other emergencies, helping to save lives and reduce human risk. I hope to contribute to safer, more efficient solutions for critical situations by advancing robotics.
What advice would you like to give those about to begin their journey at ULethbridge?
Always think differently and stay innovative! While grades and courses are important, it's equally crucial to focus on how to apply the knowledge you gain practically. Use what you study as a foundation for research and real-world problem-solving. Embrace opportunities to explore beyond the classroom and think about how you can make a meaningful impact with the skills you develop.
Is there anything else you want to share with us about your decision to pursue a university degree?
I would especially like to thank Dean Matthew Letts for encouraging me to start the robotics club and for consistently supporting our efforts to launch new projects by providing ample funding. His guidance has been instrumental in my growth, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunities he has given us. I am working hard because of people like him, who have made a lasting impact on my journey. I will always carry gratitude for their support and the positive changes they've brought into my life and work.
