Faculty Profile: Rolf Boon (Music)
Rolf Boon (Music) was a presenter to the Minister of Heritage, Hon. Mélanie Joly, M.P., where he thanked her and the Department of Canadian Heritage for support of the Canada Mosaic project in February 2018. The presentation took place on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, ON. The Canada Mosaic project included distribution of a DVD of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) performing works of the 40 composers who participated in this sesquicentennial endeavour, and a bound collection of the scores to be kept in the parliament archive.
From December 1, 2018 through February 20, 2019 Boon served as an adjudicator of ten categories for the 2019 Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) Juno Awards.
Most recently, Boon’s Hyacinth Caelum: Sesquie for Canada's 150th(2017) for full orchestra was performed by the Calgary Civic Symphony on April 7, 2019 and was conducted by Maestro Rolf Bertsch. It was one of three, of the 37 Sesquies by composers from across Canada, selected by the Maestro to be included in their 2018-19 concert season. This was the third time this work has been performed by a Canadian orchestra.
