Shining graduate - Nelson Eze (BSc '21)
Nelson Eze (BSc '21) graduates this spring with his Bachelor of Science majoring in geography with a concentration in geographical information science (GIS). His co-op experience working as a field research technician for Ag-Quest gave Nelson insight into applying scientific principles to practical world issues. Nelson shone at uLethbridge and hopes to continue his career in the field of GIS.
What is your most memorable uLethbridge experience?
Living in residence and being part of a family and community that fosters growth.
Tell us a bit about your co-op work term.
My co-op work term was interestingly challenging but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I found working as a field research technician for Ag-Quest gave me insight on applying scientific principles in approaching research problems and testing multiple procedures in the life cycles of plants.
What was the best thing about co-op?
The best thing about co-op was the professional experience gained from networking with different parties and the ability to apply my education into practical and real world issues.
What is the most important lesson you learned during your time in the Faculty of Arts & Science at uLethbridge?
Connecting with staff and professors because they are they’re there to help and support your growth. Also, understanding that even though not all classes offered are for you, there’s always something to learn.
Is there someone specific who had an important influence on your uLethbridge experience?
Professors Dr. Craig Coburn and Dr. Stefan Kienzle as well as instructor, Marcus Dostie all from the Department of Geography & Environment. In the Career Bridge office Lynette Harty (admin) and coordinator Lukas Neamtu.
What are your hopes/plans for the future?
I hope to start my career in the field of GIS and hopefully get a master’s degree in climate change and sustainable development.
What advice would you give to those who are about to begin their journey at uLethbridge?
Be patient, stay healthy, have fun and most of all, be hardworking.
