Alumni Profile: Makambe K Simamba (BFA - Dramatic Arts '13)
Makambe’s focus is to be of service to humanity through her ability to tell stories. Stage acting credits include an autobiographical solo called A Chitenge Story (Handsome Alice, Betty Mitchell Award Nomination for Outstanding Actress), Bea (Sage Theatre, Betty Mitchell Award Nomination for Outstanding Actress), SIA (Pyretic Productions), inVISIBLE (Handsome Alice), and Medea (Chromatic Theatre). Film acting credits include Burn Your Maps (TIFF), Hold the Dark (Netflix), and Young Drunk Punk (CBC). She is a national award-winning playwright who was a member of the 2017 Banff Playwright's Colony.
In 2019 Makambe won two Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Performance by an Individual in the Theatre for Young Audiences category for her play Our Fathers, Sons, Lover and Little Brothers.
